Bruker 2 Posted April 20, 2016 I just watched the mechanic on the Wheeler Dealer TV show convert a race car from a key start to a toggle switch start. The toggle switch had three positions, bottom(off)-middle(on)-top(momentary). Flip the toggle from off to on to power the system then hold the toggle at momentary to start. Release the toggle and the switch goes back to on until you decide to shut it off. Any reason this couldn't be done on a garden tractor?
MikeES 458 Posted April 20, 2016 No reason it will not work. On our pulling tractors I didn't put in a 3 position switch, but I did put in an on-off toggle and used the key for engaging the starter only. The on-off toggle would be quicker for a emergency motor shut down.
MrSteele 492 Posted April 22, 2016 If there are young children around, the toggle may not be a good idea. A key can be removed, but the toggle switch is always ready for the tractor to start. An electric clutch makes the tractor dangerous also. All little boys want to do what Daddy or Grandpa do, well before they are able to really do it. A toggle switch makes it too easy for them.
