Engine to repower a 4040

I have a 4040 that needs a new engine, and I just picked up a briggs twin ii 18 hp i/c plus for another project but thought it might work in the 4040. Any thoughts?

I saw a Powermax on Craigslist last year in PA that had been re-powered with that engine so I know it's possible. Don't know what had to be changed or modified if any.

Didn't do the swap.  I decided to rebuild what I have...still working on it.

The rebuild takes time and money but might be the very best move in my opinion.

Me too much rather rebuild than repower.

But I do have a 20hp Honda needs rebuilt all parts available on ebay, PM if interested
