GregB 941 Posted May 8, 2016 Started out this am to make the 17GTH-L I got from Phan-dad run without having choke part way on. Easy right? Pulled main jet, crusted with white deposits Note to self, get better at treating junk ethanol gas. Pulled carb to clean, tore gasket between halfs Went for re-build kit , gasket missing ngr2ngr2 Well to backup plan, install new Briggs Branded carb I bought from E-bay a while back. Installed and hooked every thing up, looked pretty on the almost new 16 HP Briggs. Started it, throttle worked backwards Here when they put the little lever plate on the throttle shaft they installed it 180 degrees out of location. Had to pull carb, take apart, knock off the lever, rebuild assy, and reinstall carb. Adjusted cables, started it up, runs smooth and works right :D Finally I can start to mow the tall grass due to all the rain we have been getting. PhanDad 3,622 Posted May 8, 2016 Sounds like one of my "simple" projects sometimes. And I also let that carb get crappy a couple years ago. Fed it some SeaFoam and it got "better" but I'm sure it didn't completely get it clean. That tractor did a lot of sitting after I got the 2nd 75th running. Not being used isn't good for man or machine. Hope it mowed OK for you.
johnmonkey 4 Posted May 8, 2016 I'm glad there was a happy ending. JH
GregB 941 Posted May 9, 2016 Bill, The tractor mowed fine. First time the lawn has been striped in a while. Nothing like the sound of a Briggs loading in governor because of the deep grass. While the 16HP Single Briggs is not as smooth as the M18 in my 917H, it sips gas by comparison. Now that I put rear wheel weights on it, it even tolerates my slopes. colincox1 62 Posted May 10, 2016 There was me thinking that I was the only one to like the sound of on governor on 16hp B&S. its been a while now, as i had to leave my "old single" behind in UK, cos a lot of bother and often failure at customs/border control, re emissions, CRAZY RULES. anyway, I can listen to the old single 12hp Kohler , but its not the same though.
