Interesting Part Failure

Yesterday I was checking the level setup of the 42" deck (mfg #1690271, splined arbors) I picked up late last summer with the 7016H tractor. I thought the front wasn't set high enough (and it wasn't). During the measurement process, I noticed the left arbor blade wasn't rotating in a level plane. At the blade tips, the total difference was about 1/2". Bent blade? No. A look at the Blade Adapter showed it wasn't rotating level, but to a much lessor extent. After filing the arbor shaft splines to get the Blade Adapter off, this is what I found:

One side of the mounting face chipped off. I'm thinking somewhere in its life, the blade hit something hard enough to chip the cast adapter. On other decks, I've seen remains of the adapters used as splined washers so I know they are somewhat brittle.
