Trouble-shooting a Voltage Regulator

Recommended Posts

tamurmueen

Does anyone have a PDF or a document describing how to trouble-shoot/analyze the regulator of an old Landlord 2010?

I have burned out two (!!) starter-generators, and can't afford to lose another. Problem must be in the regulator; the ignition switch and starter button are both working.

Thank you!

Here are a couple of links with info that may be helpful, If you have not already found them.

I would first verify all the harness connections to the wiring diagrams.

Then use the second to troubleshoot.

Found this after a web search, not sure if it the right one though.

There were some ACDELCO PDF's floating around that detailed the adjustment procedures.

To do it right, both SG and regulator should be benched tested as a unit to insure that both are compatible. The only one I have trust in is M-J Electric , Milw WI. as the co-owner, Marsh Lytle, cut his teeth with the DC charging era. http://milwaukeestarter-alternator.com/home/2062613 . From there you make sure you have clean terminals to eliminate resistance. I have a D-R bulletin on your regulator and I can E-mail it to you if you PM me with your e-mail address. I don't know if you have any repair facilities in your area.

Thank you all for the inputs. Amazingly, I am beginning to understand how these things work!

It looks pretty complicated to try to maintain the units, however.

I believe what we use are 12-volt, 10-amp, negative ground regulators.

Does anyone know where to get replacements? If anyone has one (or two) that are in excellent shape, I would be interested in purchasing.

PM me.

Thanks.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
