Does anyone need help putting pictures in the For Sale Ads section? Having to email for a picture puts a damper on the interest...A little salesmanship helps...Woody

How do certain members post photos in discussion? I understand one must subscribe to an image hosting service. How does that work and what does it cost? Your right. Pictures make ads and discusison much more interesting.

I agree...it's surprising, and a little disappointing, not to see pics there. Although I don't have a dig. cam. myself, I certainly expect everyone else to--ha! But you're right Woody, I don't know how to post any pics, which I hope to soon, once I get them developed on Snapfish.com. Unless I'm mistaken, they publish ALL your (coventional film) pics on the web, briefly, so you can choose which ones to enlarge, etc... and you can import them to wherever. I hope to do this soon, but I have no idea how to do it. Good point. Peter

You can buy digital cameras really cheap now. I got a Kodak digital from my stepson in exchange for helping him on his house. It's a 1.0 Megapixel camera, but I normally use it at it's lowest of three resolution settings. This gives a file size of around 75KB. I wanted a 2MP Kodak 5000 that has a waterproof case, but I'm really glad I started with something cheaper to learn on. I'll know better now what features I'll want on my next DC. The point I'm trying to make is that you can get low resolution digital cameras for around $80 or less. Most picture hosting sites either recommend limiting or limit file sizes to 75-100 KB anyway. I think that this file size is in the realm of these cheap, low resolution cameras. When you get one, you will use it a lot. As a remodeling contractor, I use mine constantly. You can go thru 8 paks of Polaroid 600 film, and you've got a cheap camera paid for. If you use file compression utility on JPGs you can use higher resolutions and still get them down to relatively small sizes. I shoot pictures on my 1.3 megapixel Kodak (about $150) at the highest resolution then either cut out the pieces I want, or compress them. I use 800 X 600 pixels for much of the "click to see a closer view" stuff on the site, and compress them down to 35-50 kb each so the picture should download in about a second on a 56.6 modem (which usually connects in the 40kb range).... I agree with Paul -- I seldom use my much more expensive 35mm Minolta any more.... If you're going to do much picture manipulation, I recommend PaintShop Pro -- there's a free trial version, but I think the package is now $99. It was $49 when I first bought it years ago, but I've also bought a few upgrades.... These kinds of packages are great because you can lighten or darken the picture, sharpen it or blur it, adjust colors, etc....

If you can get the pictures in digital format (digital camera, scanner, or some photo developers like Kodak offer it as an option when you get your film developed), there are places on the Internet that you can store them for free. My current favorite is Canon's Hyperphoto site at: http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/canon.asp?s=cano They give you 50MB of free space to use for online photo albums. NOTE: Do NOT protect your album with a password, or you won't be able to link to it.... Pictures are VERY large, so you will need to "compress" them before you load them to the online album. Here's a free website where you can "crunch" them before you put them in your album. NOTE: Always use the .JPG format for pictures that you're going to put on the web. Crunch them down as much as you can, without degrading the picture too much... http://www.spinwave.com/ Once you have the pictures loaded to your server you need to find out their actural URL address. Go to the view of the picture that you want, then right click on the picture. In Netscape, simply use the option to copy the image's address. In Internet Explorer, you'll need to select Properties then copy the URL address from that small Properties screen. Highlight the URL by clicking and dragging over the ENTIRE address -- it may be more than will show in the window, so make sure you've scrolled down to the bottom of it. While it is highlighted, hold down the CTRL key and press the C key. This is the Windows shortcut for Copy. Then go to the message, ad or reply and paste that address into the Optional image link field at the bottom of the form. Put your cursor in that field, click once so it sits there and blinks, then hold down the CTRL key and press the V key. This is the Windows shortcut for Paste. That's it -- if you want to put in multiple pictures, you'll have to add replies and put a picture in each.... Hope this helps. Kent

There is another option at the Canon Hyperphoto site. Notice on the left side at the bottom there is a viewing option. No matter what you send to the album the resolution you will get to display here will be what they have "crunched" it to or conversely what they have expanded. Example. If you take a high res pic and place it on the album and view it in 256x256 pixels that is what you will see here and it will be too small..I have a post here somewhere telling exactly how to place photos and it is easy to do...Woody[A href='http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/canon.asp?s=cano']http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/canon.asp?s=cano[/a]

Here's a link to one of my albums at Canon Hyperphoto. Let me know if you can get in or not...This and one other album are using 16 megs and I still have 33 left. I haven't bother saving space by using low res because right now it doesn't matter....There you will find scanned images as well as the digital photos for those who have asked that question....Woody[A href='http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/Album.asp?s=cano&u=1671469&a=1210865']http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/Album.asp?s=cano&u=1671469&a=1210865[/a]

Here's a great tip! After you have your album set you will want to put your photos there. This is the easiest way. While you are in the Manage Photos area click on the Email Photos button. Your mail program will start and all you have to do is attach the photos you want in the album. No text required at all. It's all automatic and when you return to your album the photos will be there...Woody
