Trying to understand

Hi guys. I'm new to this but,I understand that this site is for simplicity and allis tractors but I also have a case ingersoll 446 with a bad Onan 16 hp motor. Any suggestions on a reasonably priced replacement? I'm confused about the left hand deck discharge. Does that simply mean the motor is on backwards? Let me know what you guys think I appreciate the help I've gotten so far on my 9020

The right/left hand discharge is how the power is moved from the engine to the deck, not how the engine sits.

My JDs have crossways engines (flywheel on left side) and right hand discharge. 300 series JDs have inline engines (flywheel to the back) and still have RH discharge. All are belt drive.

My Allis is an inline with flywheel to the back and LH discharge (PTO drive).

it does make a difference which way the motor sets in frame,

if you put the flywheel end facing forward, you would have right hand discharge

I wondered about the discharge because the tractor itself is hydraulic driven. No actual driveline. The hydraulic pump bolts directly to the motor

As I recall when I removed the Onan motor that the flywheel was in the front. The hydraulic pump bolted to the fan

On the old models, you could likely have a right hand discharge on the deck, due to the twisted belt from the PTO to the deck. If you needed right hand discharge and had a deck that would fit with that requirement, simply change the twist on the belt. I am sure that some here have accidentally put the crossover belt on wrong and realized that when they engage the PTO?

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
