MarksA-C
A couple weeks ago I went up north to take care of a few things, been a rough Spring and Summer so I was never able to get the first mowing in. To my surprise... the grass was 4' tall. I tried the push mower, no dice. Weed trimmer? That would have taken a month to cut it all. The abused 5116 wasn't having any of the tall grass either. Ended up caving in and renting a DR brush mower from the local hardware store. That thing is a BEAST! 1-2" saplings? Mulch! Mowed the whole yard and orchard in under 3 hours! Got one heck of a workout, could barely walk after I finished. The 5116 did a good job finishing up the cut on the lawn. The 5116 sat out uncovered all winter with half a tank of gas. Threw the jumper pack on it and it fired right up. Hard to beast a $40 rider with free 18hp repower. The 6518 "Fighting Freebee" I got from Redbarnrick is still in the shed and will be coming out of its 7 year hibernation this summer.Overall it was a good week. Took the puller up to work it some since I can't run it long in the city since it sounds like a strait piped harley. Not to forget, finally got to run the AR-15 I built through its paces. The puller shows how tall the grass is. Best thing I ever spent $90 on! Rough cut finished Raking up the 2-4' grass clippings and burning. Getting rid of the horse flies and mosquitoes all in one too. Running after sitting in this one spot for 9 months uncovered through a harsh cold winter and hot summer. Mowing and pulling a cart with gas and beer. Gotta keep hydrated!

isetta
Very nice, you probably just let the grass grow so you could have fun running all your equipment
720nut
Alright, love the north (Michigan) but hey anytime you get away is great, and being able to actually use your toys, yes by all means!!
rich_kildow
Hold on, $90 on that trail mower!! And what kind of hand guard do you have on your AR? I need to replace a stupidly huge quad rail and I like the look of that one.
MarksA-C
It was $90 to rent it for the afternoon lol. The hand guard is one I found on eBay, I'll find a link. Has modular rails and fits really nice.

rich_kildow
Got it! I rent a Billy Goat once a year to open trails up for the fall and I'm always amazed at what those things can do. It makes me consider buying one but the moment I own it, I'll destroy it hitting a stump or something. I think I found it on ebay, thanks. I'm working on some hunting loads for my 300 Blackout at this point, which is a blast to shoot.
MarksA-C
http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-Slant-Nose-Key-Mod-Free-Float-Handguard-ALUM-by-Guntec-USA-/262446642615?hash=item3d1b09f5b7:g:GPAAAOSwq5pXP0-f That is the one I used. I have a 20" PSA stainless heavy barrel so the 15" guard looks really sweet on it.
rich_kildow
Thanks for the link. Just out of curiosity, where is the North Woods for you? Depending on who you talk to that could be anywhere from Minoqua to Ashland to Hayward/Trego/Minong...I live in the later and you nailed it: who wouldn't want to live up here? The school my wife and I teach at is even Northwood School!

ss74nova
Beautiful area & nice toys Mark! I always want to go north, even on vacation. Someday I would like to buy property north of me & live there where there aren't many neighbors too close. I opted for the Ruger Mini 14 Ranch rifle in 223/5.56. I would really like a Springfield M1-A Socom 16 in 308/7.62. Both are based off the reliable action of the M1 Garand & M14. They are heavy but reliable. I love the loud sound of the bolt closing when chambering a round. I would think the sound would act as a deterrent for night or day prowlers, just like chambering a round in a shotgun. Again very nice property! Nice to have a spot just to get away from everything 8D:drl:pdOd.
