PhanDad 3,616 Posted August 7, 2016 Getting around to repairing the gear tooth starter on the 7016H I picked up last year so I have a working spare.Need to replace the "Drive-Starter", the parts that move to engage the ring gear. It's the "old" style (Fig 2) and the repair instructions say to use "Briggs Tools" as can be seen in the repair instructions: No need for the removal tool since the "C-ring" is what failed. But what would you use for the install tool? Pics of the parts: I'm thinking a small deep socket that will just go over the shaft and press the C-ring into the recess of the end piece. lt-scir 35 Posted August 7, 2016 I have used steel pipe the correct size , with a small press.
Brettw 1,130 Posted August 7, 2016 Whatever you do, never force anything. Just use a bigger hammer. )
BLT 718 Posted August 7, 2016 Briggs has a tool for that, 19435. It is a slotted piece, where you first slide the ring on the tool then push the tool onto the shaft, then slide the ring into the groove. That tool is aroudd 40 $amolie$.
PhanDad 3,616 Posted August 7, 2016 Bob, thanks for explaining how the tool works. There's a "pic" of the tool at the bottom right of the instructions. No way I would I have figured out how the tool worked based on that "pic".
