GregB 941 Posted September 18, 2016 Mounted up my vac system on the 17GTH, with side filter. Drive belt bounces and rubs the filter. Do I need to use the same idler and bracket like if I was using a tiller? All my other hydros are earlier versions with the filter hanging in the middle. Brettw 1,130 Posted September 18, 2016 Yes, there is an idler bracket that bolts to the frame, that holds a single idler pulley. It lifts the belt just a tad to clear the filter. You don't use the twin idler pulley / mule drive that you would use with a tiller that mounts on the lift assembly cross tube. But you do use that idler that bolts to the frame with any other rear attachments,(tiller, revitalizer, etc.) with the side mount filter.
GregB 941 Posted September 25, 2016 Ended up bending up a bracket from the sketch drawing that Al Eden posted. Used a idler that was close to the correct diameter, seems to work right. I did buy another belt incase the one branded Allis Chalmers could not take the additional bend. New belt, Simplicity, branded Briggs, "Hecho in Mexico". Wonder if it will last as long as the Allis belt?
