Floydster 0 Posted July 4, 1999 7-4-99 @ 22:05 To All, The spark plug threads in my cylinder head are stripped. A local machine shop put a steel insert in, instead of a Heli-Coil, and now the insert threads are stripped. I may need a cylinder head if I cannot get this one fixed. Anyone have a head available at a reasonable price? Thanks, Roy
BobG 0 Posted July 8, 1999 7-8-99 @ 21:31 To All, A friend of mine, who runs a welding and machine shop and is a wizard at welding and other mechanical tricks, welded the spark plug hole shut, then drilled and tapped it. Cost was a phenomenal no charge! I owe him at least one or two for solving my problem. My cylinder head is fixed. Kent: You can delete this post if desired. B-Man 0 Posted July 9, 1999 I didn't see your post in time, but I repaired an aluminun cylinder head for a motorcycle the same way. Works great and is stronger than the original aluminum that was threaded intially.
Les 4 Posted July 10, 1999 Brian, Cool! I hope you're right about the welded aluminum being stronger than the original material. Roy
