Wilbur643 47 Posted October 16, 2016 Got a '97 sovereign, battery's dead, it's a 51c, local auto parts doesn't have one, kid looked it up said its should be a 22nf, they don't got one of those ether. Go to TSC, they got both, the 51c looks a little smaller than the 22nf but has 60 more cranking amps, its also $20.00 cheaper. Didn't get ether, don't need the tractor till spring. Just curious which one you guys use? The 51c worked fine for 6+ years, just had to use a piece of 1/4 fuel line at the edge of the case to keep it tight. rokon2813 272 Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) Pretty sure 22NF and 51R are the recommended... I personally use 51R when I can find a deal... I've had them last as long as 8 years... I've used the standard lawn mower batteries too, but on a cast iron briggs 3 years at best. You get what you pay for I guess. MikeES 458 Posted October 17, 2016 The 22NF is the battery for the large frame RBT tractors. The 22nf has the lugs on the base of the battery to clamp into the factory battery box clamp. I highly recommend to use the 22NF clamped into place. With the gas tank right next to the battery you need to keep the battery in place, with a metal hood and dash, it is easy to have the battery bounce and spark to metal. I had an incident many years ago that could have been a disaster, I thank God for protecting my children, and that the tractor did not catch on fire or explode. After that I NEVER run the tractor, or move the tractor without the battery clamped into place.
