A fixed freebee

I was fortunate to get this nice Regent from a previous customer.  I have done two extensive remodels / additions to his home, and he remebered I played with the Simplicities.  He called and said it didn't sound right, and then it just quit, come pick it up and take it away.  So, I found it had a bad idler pulley ( a V pulley that lost half of the V) and that about destroyed the drive belt, that was relatively easy to fix.  I did get it running, but it was rough and missing, a backfire on throttle down, etc.   I recalled having this issue before with a Kohler Command and wondered, sheared flywheel key?  Sure enough.  $0.68 later and it purrs like a kitten.  Amazing that these keys shear like that, as tight as the flywheel is.  Took a lot of pressure on the puller for it to pop, and they are torqued to 49 ft lbs.

What a great save!  Seems like many of us pay even to get something in that condition - I know that from experience!

Yup, freebies are always good.  If I make a buck or two on them, I usually drop off some cash or a good bottle of booze the the donor.  Let them know I appreciate it and then the word does seem to get around. dOd
