hurleyii 227 Posted November 1, 2016 OK guys so it's that time . Old faithful (912h) has about had it and needs to be retired till I can rebuild her. With that being said I'm going to repower my 7116h with a 21HP Vanguard. Motor is coming from a Cub Cadet that I picked up yesterday. So I've found a 7117 article which seems to cover about everything but I was hoping you guys could make things a little easier since I am installing it on a different model tractor actually. A mounting plate spec that I could throw on a plasma cutting machine at a shop would be great . Along with some wiring diagrams. Although I am considering using all the donor electrical so it's not even an issue. Thoughts on this guy's? Any other suggestions such as muffler and what not would be great. I already called Jim's Repair and I'm sorry but... Ahhh Yea he is about the price of what labor to should cost. Anyway any help you guys could give would be excellent thanks guys. Chris727 2,014 Posted November 1, 2016 Is a mounting plate required for a vanguard?
Tom45 66 Posted November 1, 2016 I installed an 18 hp Vanguard from Small Engine Warehouse. It came with a mounting plate, I am guessing about 5/8" thick, but I can measure it. I don't know the height of the 21 hp.
hurleyii 227 Posted November 2, 2016 From what I read it's supposed be 1" taller or to be precise .9" I'm trying to find the exact design pattern so I can throw it on a auto CAD plasma cutting machine. I haven't found any actual wiring diagrams yet though.
rich_kildow 269 Posted November 2, 2016 I can confirm that the plate off a Triad is 7/8"...could very well be .9. I measured it with a tape, not calipers, during my Predator repower.
maxwood 596 Posted November 2, 2016 Hello, Here is a photo of the plate, they come on the triad power sovereigns this photo is from a predator 22hp repower. the plate is 7/8ths tall it locates the engine in the right spot (centered and located forward enough) I have repowered 2 sovereigns 1 with briggs vanguard 16 HP and the other with a Predator 22 HP I have a diagram of the bolt hole s layout but it is a pdf and I can't load it here. Thanks Ken in Mi
hurleyii 227 Posted November 2, 2016 So the Triad plate is pre drilled for a Brigs to?
Mike_H 92 Posted November 2, 2016 I think the briggs and kohler engines share the same bolt layout. I don't know if there are "standards" per se, but I have been pretty lucky with repowers, in that I've never had to redrill new holes for bolting the engine down....at least when replacing similar HP engines. You change HP, and all bets are off.
maxwood 596 Posted November 2, 2016 Hello, The bolt hole layout are standardized and some engines have multiple holes for different uses. Thanks ken in Mi

BLT 718 Posted November 2, 2016 Briggs cast irons and single cylinder Kolhler appear to have 6.151" Base to c/S centerline of about 6.151 " and the Vanguard and Kohler Command V twins have a C/S centerline of 5..248 or about .028" off the 7/8" from what can see.. rich_kildow 269 Posted November 3, 2016 Thanks for grabbing that pic, Maxwood. I was having a tough time getting things to post properly the other night and wanted to link that over from my repower.
jwilk56 0 Posted December 5, 2016 I just swapped a 14hp Briggs Vanguard into a 3410S, replacing original 10hp. Drilled new holes and used a standard set of Briggs spacers for $14 (p/N 695194). Also upgraded to an electric PTO in front that came with the Vanguard, was originally on a Cub Cadet. Tractor rips now, couldn't be happier. I had to try the snow blower last night with the snow that we had.
Brettw 1,127 Posted December 6, 2016 Do not follow the electrical from the 7117 article. That will not be correct for the Briggs.
hurleyii 227 Posted August 2, 2017 (edited) Ok project is officially underway since Old Faithfull is no longer with us! I'm looking for engine torq specs for the 21hp Vangaurd as the guy sold me a tractor with number 2 cyl blown. Also any suggestions on what I should do with cylinder 1 since it's running great? 155 to 165 compression. I'm guessing just clean it off good and new valv cover, intake and exhaust gaskets. Oh yea.... cylinder 2 cooling fins was packed with oil. I'm guessing that's why she broke. Edited August 2, 2017 by hurleyii
