Hoot 0 Posted November 4, 2016 My son acquired this non running tractor for free. He brought it out to me to see if we could get it running. I cleaned and set the Points, rebuilt the carb and replaced the fuel pump. The k301 runs strong after unhooking the drive shaft. The bevel gearbox was froze up. I put a big wrench on the output pulley nut and have broke it loose now. I have found out in a round about way that some how the tractor has been under water for a unknown amount of time. I drained and refilled the gearbox and rear end. There was some water in both. Hooked driveshaft back up now and have been able to drive it. The mower deck works fine with after a little cleanup. Here is my problem it runs fine forward in all four gears, but will not move in reverse when I shift the shuttle lever. I can't figure out if there is an adjustment for this or what to look for. Any help would be appreciated. I don't have any experience with Allis tractors.
bigdog46 2 Posted November 4, 2016 When you pull the shuttle lever to the rear you will notice under the right rear fender that it tightens a brake band. If the tractor will not move in reverse, you must tighten the brake band. On one side of the brake band there is a threaded rod that goes into a pivot pin. There is a spring clip that you must remove on the pivot pin and move it up the threaded rod a few turns. Replace the pivot and spring clip and try the tractor in reverse. If it still does not work, repeat the step to tighten the band some more until it works. Hope my explanation helps as it is difficult to explain without actually showing you in person. dhoadley 1,747 Posted November 4, 2016 Nice find! I love the seat. I would feel much safer if I could "buckle up" for high-speed mowing.
