Muffler Swap

Recommended Posts

When I brought the freebie 1920 (same as Sunstar) home, I noticed the muffler outlet was aimed forward and there was a hole in the front grill. I figured someone replaced the muffler with one off something else and cut the hole in the grill.  As I researched it, I discovered that was how they came out of the factory!

Then I noticed the Sunstar mufflers came out the side. I watched a few Sunstar mufflers on ebay, pricey critters! Then one came up for $15 + $15 shipping.  Grabbed it! Got it on today.

Now to find a new grill.  It was also bent up.  Have a new take-off full-size grill off our 7060 Allis (my avatar) out on the farm, thought about cutting it down and putting it in. Have to run that past my brother, though!

I have had 2 1920 DAs and both had the muffler coming out the side and not the grill, though I have seen both Sunstars and Allis' with the exhaust out the grill like yours.

Interesting.  Must be a production change rather than badge.
Wonder which is earlier?
Not sure of the year of my tractor.

My last 1920 had a M20 with a year of 1990, with the exhaust out the side.  I pretty sure the engine was original.

I kept the engine, deck and deck PTO, and sold the tractor.  The engine is now in a 7119.

BTW I have the muffler from it  and the 48" deck that I would sell.
