3415H gear oil fill

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty new at this having just scored my first real lawn tractor, a 72 3415h. I am trying to add gear oil. I think this is leaking both hydraulic fluid and gear oil. I have drained the gear box and need to refill it. The only obvious place to put oil into the gearbox is on the opposite side of the drain. There is a small pipe fitting there with a plug.  Am I trying to add it at the right location?  The fact that it's about 25degrees in the shop and we're talkin' 90w, it doesn't flow very well.  I have warmed the oil and placed a light bulb under the gearbox to warm it up, but it still didn't flow very fast.

That's the correct location.  Fill to the top of the elbow.  If you overfill, it'll usually leak/dip.

Did you download the manual for your tractor?  I gave you the link to it in your December post.  All the maintenance info is there.
