rottenwillie 0 Posted January 5, 2017 I'm pretty new at this having just scored my first real lawn tractor, a 72 3415h. I am trying to add gear oil. I think this is leaking both hydraulic fluid and gear oil. I have drained the gear box and need to refill it. The only obvious place to put oil into the gearbox is on the opposite side of the drain. There is a small pipe fitting there with a plug. Am I trying to add it at the right location? The fact that it's about 25degrees in the shop and we're talkin' 90w, it doesn't flow very well. I have warmed the oil and placed a light bulb under the gearbox to warm it up, but it still didn't flow very fast.
dince 276 Posted January 5, 2017 You are welcome to use my shop - it's about 110 in the shade!
PhanDad 3,617 Posted January 5, 2017 That's the correct location. Fill to the top of the elbow. If you overfill, it'll usually leak/dip. Did you download the manual for your tractor? I gave you the link to it in your December post. All the maintenance info is there.
rottenwillie 0 Posted January 6, 2017 I thought that I had but can't find any trace of it on my puter. I am not so good with these things either.
