Reproduction Toolbox!

Recommended Posts

1978Simplicity7016H

Hi all, last night I began making a tool box for the back of my B-10. I began with some scraps of sheet metal from air ducts. They were scraps, so yes they are new. IMG_1284.JPG

First I made the template and cut it out.

IMG_1285.JPGGave it a bend...

IMG_1288.JPGIMG_1290.JPG

Bent it some more, drilled mounting holes, and made three sets of hinges...

IMG_1292.JPG

Bent up the top cover and made more hinges...

IMG_1294.JPGIMG_1295.JPG

Put a section of wire through the hinges from a hanger for uniforms...

BTW: the LP tank is temporary, just testing the heater until I get hose to place tank outside.

And VIOLA!! A reproduction toolbox, a very rare accessory for FDT A/C's and Simple 700's.

It was getting late and I was getting cold (ran out of LP gas for my heater), so the sides will be created soon! I acquired the dimensions for this here on ST. Search for the thread titled: "Dang"

This was the only thread I could find that was about these toolboxes, so I am guessing they are pretty rare!

Thanks for Looking!!

It will be nice for storing clevis pins, and look! Another fine example of my reproductions. Spring clips made from the same wire used on the hinges.

GOOD EYE LLOYD!! Yes, that is a scale model B-10. As you can see, I have mostly finished the front basics, but am figuring out how I should make the transmission. Any ideas on grill material?

You have been following D10-Allis build on show and tell, as he has figured out most of the angles so to say on the mailbox

Yes, I hope D-10 Allis doesn't think I am copying him, but before I got the metal I got that far making a B-10 out of paper. The difference is that I am looking to make an actual replica, not saying D-10's isn't, but mine won't be functional, just a replica. I hope D-10 keeps going on his, I know I have trouble finding spare time to experiment making stuff. I will try to keep you updated, on both projects:D

Looks AWESOME.

As I have stated many times before. ...the skill and craftsmanship of our members is just incredible and I am always happy to be able to share in the final outcome of these efforts by others.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Last night I did get the sides of the box done. I cut slits in the side of the side panels, and placed the tabs through the slit and bent it around.

Sorry guys, didn't get to the scale B-10 yesterday. I am stuck as to how I should go about the rear axle. I am thinking rolling a "tube" and sliding it through holes in the sides of the transmission, but how should I fasten wheels? As for wheels, maybe making a "doughnut" and cut out a circle of metal and pushing thought the center of the metal doughnut for a rim.

Front axle: is it possible to solder this material? I don't have convenient access to a welder, so could I solder the hanger wire to the sheet metal?

From D-10 Allis:

Daniel, I assume you could depending on material you choose to use, been a while since I've worked with galvanized metal but anything can be done . It could be brazed if you have torch.

I've got a 140 Hobart that I've worked to death and really wasn't that expensive to buy.

Thanks for the replies and recommendations on soldering everyone. Cousin Simplicity7013H is coming for a visit this weekend, so maybe we can experiment with the solder, and make him a toolbox or two:D

you can weld galvanized metal...use your die grinder to remove the galvanizing first...OR if you don't mind looking like a lobster, weld through it.  The zinc is an "impurity" in the weld and will cause sunburn.  Old toolmaker at work told me that was how you could spot an amateur welder...by the amount of sunburn!

Elliott did Daniel autograph it for you?     LOL

Anything I make I always try to mark so if I ever come across I'll know wether it is one of mine or not.

Lloyd, I didn't autograph it, but if I sold any to a person outside of the family I probably would:D

Didn't do much on the metal projects over the weekend, but I did finally pick up a trailer for my Ertle Ford LGT 145.

I don't have a real LGT, but I do have an older Ford 100 (Jacobsen Chief 1000). I picked this up at the Portland power show in Indiana in maybe 2014? When I brought it home I made a deck for it out of paper. Then I made a front hitch out of a paper clip and made a dozer blade. Then came the snowthrower, and then a Cozy Cab, and then wheel weights, then a tiller, and finally a weight box. I wanted to get a trailer so I could make a leaf vacuum, but whenever I found a trailer, it came with a tractor and the seller didn't want to separate the set. So Sunday I was at the Toy Show in Winimac, and found another tractor and trailer, and the guy agreed to sell me the trailer!

Took these pictures last minute this morning, and now I see I should have turned the shoot around and straightened it, but the shoot is blue and the deflector is white with red "FORD" writing,

Yes, I know the weight box is darker, I grabbed the wrong coloring pencil, and it was too late when I started coloring!

I cant decide which color is better, I like the lighter blue, but the darker would be a closer match, but is too purple for me.

IMG_1364.JPG

I took this as a 4-H project a few years ago, but the judge lady told me I should use some sort of paint to color the attachments, but I think the color job is good enough for me. The dozer blade somewhere, but can't seem to find it.

I know it isn't orange, but my dad grew up on that Ford 100, and my grandpa and uncles farm with Fords, and most of my family drives Fords, and I like Ford vehicles, so I like Ford GT's too:D You can tell I modeled the tiller and snowblower from Simplicity, but didn't Simplicity furnish some tillers for Jacobsen, and Ford?

But over Christmas break I made this for my little Allis, so you guys can relate to this. It never had any Allis badging, so I made my own. In person the I think I made the window portion of the cab a little short, but I think I did a pretty good job.
