will a 18 hp briggs out of a sunstar fit in a sovereign and what will i need to mount it to the driveshaft.

Yes.  It is a direct fit for any 7117, 7119, GTHL Sovereign.  You may need a slightly different drive shaft and choke / throttle cables if you are going from a Briggs or Kohler single, but that I am not certain of.  The Magnum will have a different ignition system than an older Kohler, as it is electronic and the older Kohlers use points and a coil system.  Other than that, it will fit just fine and work great.

I appologize.  I thought I read a Magnum.  I can't speak to the Briggs.
