MikeES 469 Posted March 9, 2002 Just returned from a THT (tractor hauling trip) 2hrs each way in a blizzard to pick up a 917H with electric lift, very good 48"deck, 42" snoblower with electic spout. The main decision maker on whether we should go or not, was the road condtions for salt spray on the tractor and not the safety of being out in such weather. When it started to snow very heavy we knew that the roads would completely snow covered (no salt spray) and treacherous, we new the tractor would be OK, so off we went. Sometimes you can get delirious with the "fever". Good Luck was with us! Mike S.
StinKy 0 Posted March 9, 2002 Weather Channel shows you guys got nailed pretty good lately. Was that an in-state trip? Is the new machine in running shape, or is it an upcoming restoration?? Dick
MPH 12 Posted March 9, 2002 If its a running tractor with a snow blower at least you had a 'not stuck for long' safety net with you on the return trip.MPH
MikeES 469 Posted March 9, 2002 Yes, this was an in state trip and the 917 is in very good condition running condition (drove it up on the trailer with the snow and wind blowing at 45 mph). The blower was sitting outside and covered with 1/2" of solid ice. So I couldn't hook it up and try it right away. Question - how do you tell the difference from a Series I KT17 and the Series II? This engine has what looks like a place to add the oil filter assembly, which my other KT17 does not. Does this make it a Series II? Mike S.
JonetteP 0 Posted March 9, 2002 Hi Mike, yes you have a series II. There is also a change in the crankshaft taper between the series I and II. I would recomend using a ford taurus filter on your engine. This filter has the same mounting as a your engine, but increases the oil capacity outside the engine. This helps cool the oil and adds additional oil.
