Kent 435 Posted February 12, 2017 I have just added a Member Map underneath the Membership menu. It is based on the Mapquest maps, and will display your location or the location of an event to the closest city and state. It does NOT show your street address unless you type it in or let it use your GPS coordinates from a smart device. It only requires City, County, State to place you on the map. Participation is encouraged but purely voluntary. We understand some peoples' concerns about privacy. To add yourself, simply click the Add Location button above the map on the right. Type in city, county and state and pause to make sure Mapquest finds it, then select it and add it. Registered users and club members can view and add their locations to the map. Guests (unregistered users) cannot see members locations. I think I have it set up where Guests (unregistered users) can see only the location of an event, but I haven't tested that. Member locations and event locations are color coded -- members are in green or blue, and events in red.

PhanDad 3,616 Posted February 12, 2017 Kent, Thanks for all you do. On the map, your own location is a green house, other members are blue stick-pins.

Maybe someone else would go look. See if it gives you my full address ?? Edited February 12, 2017 by rokon2813

I'll edit and reword my post above.
rokon2813 272 Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) I don't think it "requires" it unless there is a bug. The pin for boox (higher up in new york) shows nothing but boox to me. Not sure how it found his location if he didn't put in something.... All the rest show a town county and state. It will use "My Location" from smart phones and such, I think.

Dan, This is what it shows for me just now: 13522, Waterport Carlton Road, Toms Landing, Carlton Town, Orleans County, New York, 14571, United States of America
rokon2813 272 Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) Thanks Bill. That is what it gave me too. Not exactly what I typed, but I'm guessing that's google. I typed 13522 Waterport Carlton Rd. Waterport Orleans (county) New York. Most of it I "understand". I live in the village of Waterport 14571, In the town of Carlton, Orleans county. I have no clue what the Tom's Landing is. Guessing a very old nonused name. New York is full of tiny towns that no longer exist..... Did a little research and it appears Tom's Landing is a wide spot on the river that showed up on a map in 1890 ??? The river at that point is in a gorge, and there is a flat spot of land at the bottom about where the map shows Tom's Landing, and I think there is a cottage there, so might have been a small "town" way back when. See what a simple member map got started I love history, and that is a piece of local history about 2 miles from home that I never knew...
