Alternators

That pic above is of a Allis Chalmers model GII. If it's a welder your after, then this place looks interesting, they put a welder in a gravely. By the looks of it, you could use the bracket to mount a standard alternator with little or no modification to the bracket. I may add an alternator and make a "start all" that was discussed a while ago. Just figured I'd throw in a word or two, John[A href='http://www.zena.net/'][img src='http://www.zena.net/htdocs/Images/grav10.jpg'][/a]

I think someone mentioned putting a chevy alternator on a tractor for added power. Is this correct? How many amps can you pull?

Depends on what size alternator you install. You can't draw more than capacity. Typical auto alternators run from 35 - 60 amps. Trucks, up to 200 amps and more. What is the proposed purpose?

Hi Dutch, it was not my original purpose, but how about a welder unit they put on the off road 4x4's?

Don't think your going to do any welding with an auto alternator. Some auxilary generators can be used for welding (light duty if using a tractor engine for power). http://www.simpletractors.com/images/GII/generator_sm.jpg

Don't really know. Go into Simple trACtors and do a SEARCH on "generator". There's a bunch of them with different specs. Don't think any will do welding, but that's the general idea.
