Dayton generator barn find

Recommended Posts

Friend of mine gave me this 3500 watt Dayton generator. I spent most of the day cleaning it up and putting several things back to original.... It runs and generates power. This also has a starter built into the generator itself. The only thing I am missing is a resistor for the charging system. There is no tag on this unit so I am asking for any info that you fellows might have. The engine is a Briggs 23D so that dats the generator to around 1962-65.

Thanks

Mike, I was guessing you have a model 1W832.  A bit later for the 3500 9 hp was Model numbers are Dayton 1W832A and Briggs 233431.

There is a wiring diagram on SmokStak but I can't get it because I'm not a member (or can't remember my name and password)

Looking at your pics again, what is the Cat no. between the outlets ? That might be your model number too.

Dayton is the Grainger brand isn't it?  I seem to recall Dayton brand garden tractors sold by Grainger, and made by MTD. There was a big heavy duty 16 HP one with a 3 pt hitch.

Dayton is most known for electric motors. But like every other company, I think they got into other things too.

Others may have just used the same name too, Dayton electric motors are (or were) built in Dayton Ohio

Kinda like Allis and Simplicity in the 20 and 30's ;)

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
