Both of these signs I rewired myself and put in LED bulbs. My wife thinks I'm nuts...I think it looks great.

On the orange sign, the ballast was bad...cheapest I could find was $90 for that ballast.

 

I went to Home Depot and bought four of these..

I bought four 60 watt LED bulbs for about $7 bucks. I used an old extension cord and cut the female end off. I used that and wired them in a line and mounted them to a 1x4 piece of wood which I put inside the sign. Not counting the extension cord, it cost me around $25 bucks and now the bulbs will last a long time and use little energy. 

 

 

On the older sign, all I had was the skins but I had both sides. I built the box for it out of 2x4's and wired that the same way. 

It was cheap and fun.

 Very nice. What is a sign like the orange one worth?  Asking because there is on like that in town except white with orange letters. Still hanging from the old building of the old out of business dealership. I've been trying to find out who owns the building to get the sign and any other goodies.

Looks much nicer than plain old Christmas tree lights in the shop, and BONUS - these can stay up all year around, and you won't have to hear "when are you going to get those lights taken down?"
