Oil SAE30 VS SAE 30HD

I've been running 15W40 diesel oil (Chevron Delo or Shell Rotella) in mine without issue.  I do switch to 5W30 in the winter though.  My skid steer with an Onan runs 15W40 year round as I have a heat pad on the bottom of the oil sump so the engine is toasty warm for startup.

If the question is 30W non detergent vs 30W HD (high detergent), then the answer is that the high detergent oil is required in these engines.

My understanding has always been that you use non-detergent oils in engines with no oil filter system as you want the gunk to settle into the bottom of the pan instead of flowing around. Oil filter systems will filter the gunk out of the oil so you want detergents to keep everything in suspension.
