Sunstar power question

Recommended Posts

I have been watching an add here in northern Indiana for a 47" snowthrower for a Sunstar. It started out at $1200 last fall and is now at $500 obo. He also has a cab for $200 obo. I never called on it since it was too much money, but now that it's down I am tempted. My question is this: I only have a 16 HP Sunstar (early model). I assume the 47" was probably more for the 18-20 HP Twin Sunstars. Do you think my tractor has enough power to run this? It handles the grass just fine, but wet snow is another thing. I'd love to get a 20 HP one, and my local Allis/Simplicity dealer took a 1993 20 HP (with 500 hrs on it) with a 60" deck in trade from a church. It's in good condition, but they're asking $3700 for it. That seems steep to me. Any input? Thanks! Rodney

I've been looking around in the club archives for the weight of the Sunstar tractors but havent found anything at least yet. Anybody know? They appear considerably heavier than the "standard size" most of us are used to. Dick

You will be ok but you may have to go a little slower than a 20 hp tractor. It will be fine and have the adavantage of a wide swath. Steve
