I have a problem with shifting the 3 speed transmission.

It grinds the gears

The clutch is fully releasing belt.

The brake fully enges when clutch/brake is depressed.

I polished up the pullies

no rust, or nicks on pullies

thinking there must be a way of stopping puuley on transaxle when shifting.

While the clutch releases all tension on belt

and the brake is engaged

there is enough drag  that I can not start tractor in gear

And when it does start, I can not shift without grinding.

This was a 3 speed tractor, and I recently added six speed pullies.

Problem is worse now, but had it when it was 3 speed

Belt stop on rear pulley is the answer I think

That is the problem

the bgb pulley continues to rotate

even if the belt is very loose

The transaxle contuse to rotate.

If I stop tractor with clutch/brake

and in gear. Everything stops moving

because brake stops transaxle.

but if it is not in gear, belt does drive pully

need a belt stop for transaxle pully

If you cannot start the tractor in gear with the clutch depressed sounds like the belt(s) are too tight, and would not stop when you depress the clutch.   This could be belts that are too short or your belt tightener/clutch pulley is out of adjustment and does not travel far enough to release all the tension on the belt(s).

Does this happen in both hi and low range?

I just have belt on low speed pulleys

belt is very loose during clutching

new installation, had to make major adjustments.

otherwise belt would not engage.

seems to be getting better.

There is a brake pad on the pulley , when u push the brake/clutch , it locks the tranny pulley so u can shift ,if u need photos I can share few , they might've deleted that brake pad on ur tractor for that ur having this issue , not to mention there isa trick when shifting these 6speed, mentioned in the manuals , when shifting and it doesn't go in gear u have to lift ur foot off clutch a bit to have the pulley barely turn so u can  shift  (if every thing on tractor correct )

please send pictures, I think I may have fixed problem. Looking at 3 speed set up parts , I realized that Idler pulley had a belt stop on it. Put it on, positioned stop ,so it only works when clutch is depressed. But a stop on driven pully was what I wanted.

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
