powermax_paul
There was considerable response to the ad for my spare cylinder. Is this cylinder no longer available from Simplicity? I know of a source for custom cylinders where I could get a quote on new replacements. Would there be enough call for a small production run? I have no idea what their minimum quantities are and what it would cost for a small run. Should I ask? Do any of you have a loose cylinder you can measure? Mine are in use and hard to measure accurately when on the tractor (already shipped the spare one). Need to know pin size (1/2")? ... pin center distance retracted? ... rod size (1" I think?). JeffG
Paul, Simplicity offers a "replacement" lift cylinder that is used on a later model tractor (maybe Legacy or Sunstar) - but, the lift cylinder is a dinky little thing and runs around $160. No doubt, it would work - but it just seems so puny. John Deere sells the exact same lift cylinder (2.5" diameter X 4" stroke) that was used on these PowerMax's for $147. They are found on the JD 400 series garden tractors. Jeff
MPH
Funny you post something on lift cylinders Paul. Is the one for the rear lift the same as the one I got with my Blade??Body on it is 5 1/2 long, 2 3/4 dia, 1in shaft and the pin I have out is 12 in best I can tell with flash lite. found the pins in the truck, its half. While I'm here, what sort of electric fuel pump do you use and I sure could use a clue where to put it.. right now got my van half tore down looking for a coolant leak and it has to take first time allowed..thanks MPH
JeffG
Marty, Same lift cylinder. In fact, it tells you in the owners manual to move the rear lift cylinder onto your front blade or snowblower. I always preferred to have two. I've noticed some tractors with quick disconnects to make this job easier. I think the quick disconnects were standard on the 4040's, but not on the later models (4041, 9020). Jeff
Floydster
As per PowerMax Pauls advice I installed a Purolater elec. fuel pump on my 620 AC today, and it works great! It starts by just looking at the ignition key! The 420JD also has the same cylinder on the snow blower and the blade as my 620 AC has. powermax_paul
I don't think I could get a small production run for under $150 per cylinder. The JD cylinder is probably the best way to go. Hopefully our tractors will still start with green cylinders on them. I used to have a JD 165 lawn tractor that usually ran the battery down to almost nothing before it would start. Took it in 2-3 times under warranty and finally gave up. Paul
JeffG
Paul, Happy to report that the JD cylinders are black in color - same as the PowerMax's. I'm sure they're manufactured by the same company - whoever that is. Jeff
