Allis 716H

When I was at the local Farm/hardware store I walked past their row of used tractors (as always). They have a 716H stuck in the row of drug store and box store tractors. The wheels in my head started turning, maybe I should buy this to replace my Cub Cadet 1440(It came with the house, honest. It is underpowered and its hydro seems to be going away.) What are the things I should check? All my other tractors are gear drive not hydro. It is not all rusted, and it has a deck mounted. It does not have the rear lift assembly, but all the rest of the brackets seem to be there, they look like the ones on the B-10. Does this tractor use a rod for the lift like the B series, or a cable? The biggest question is price? It is a late 700 series, what is a fair asking price for this unit. I need some backround before I start talking price with them. Thanks, Greg

The rear lift is a cable. Maybe worth $400-$800 depending on condition. Try searching the registry. That will tell you what others have paid for theirs. Brent

I paid $400 Canadian for one of mine and it was in OK shape. It was well weathered, since it had to have sat outside most of its life. But it ran like a charm! I also bought a parts 716H for $300 and it had a bad hydro and engine and the deck was rusted out. William Jordan

The (2) most important items to check on the tractor itself excluding the engine is the bevel gear box and the rear axle tube.

I've been very happy with the 716H I have (photo's at http://www.wheatfarm.com/actractor/index.html). Mine is due for a bevel box rebuilt, but otherwise it's an awesome machine. Paid $750 for it with the mower deck and rear tiller.[A href='http://www.wheatfarm.com']http://www.wheatfarm.com[/a]
