No idea , just bought it like that , PO bought it like that and been using it like that for the past 10years , runs good .

I guess there is a will there is a way

Hello, I read somewhere, that a    -1 5/8ths muffler clamp will reinforce the axle tube,  when the tractor is used for pulling . maybe someone else will chime in?

I'd use a split collar like he has there, but bigger, to clamp around the axle tube before I'd use a muffler clamp. Much stronger and gives more even support. And looks a LOT better :-)

I have never seen a tractor break the axle on the left side. In my experience the tube breaks at the keyway broach on the right side.

Maxwood; Ken, here is a pic of clamps I put on the axle tube of my  BigTen. I replaced the tube with a used one many years ago. I put the clamps around the area that broke on the old one to reinforce the keyway to stop the cracking from happening. It has done the job for at least 9 years now and I use this tractor for mowing, tilling and snow blowing.
