McGill 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2002 Several years ago an old car nut told me he removed all the rust from old parts by putting the stuff in a 55 gallon drum of wey, the by product of cheese making. Apperantly it is a mild acid and works slowly but completely. I've never tried it but this discussion about rust got me thinking.
BillC 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2002 Whey does work very well as a rust remover. Many years ago, my great uncle would take milk to the cheese factory and return with whey to feed the pigs. When we had a rusty part we put it in the whey tank.
Ron_B 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2002 DENNIS-Here is a real odd one. When i was a kid i use to see my uncle put all his old rust parts that he wanted to clean up in a pail of black molasses. He would leave them for a few days.Later they would come out clean and no rust.Molasses mix with water. --Ron B
