Sovereign I picked up today

Picked up this nice package today.  Previous owner did a little welding mod on the underside of deck.  Spindles turn flawlessly and no wobble.

In the thief's (er, Alltractoredup) Craigslist/eBay forum post about this tractor, I asked for the MFG# of the tractor.  This is the reply:

Unfortunatly, the Mfg printed number has worn off.  It does have a driveshaft end I have not seen before on the flywheel side.  It is about 3" longer.  If it was a Triad its still running strong.  The previous owner took the engine out of the Simplicity and put it in his Woods zeroturn mower.  He thought the Woods would be better for mowing on hills.  He admitted he was very wrong.  Its odd he removed the engine from the Sovereign when there was nothing wrong with tractor....

And my reply:

If the engine driveshaft end looks like this:

Then the engine was a Command; the driveshaft uses the rubber coupler.

Since it has Metallic Grey Wheels and a newer seat (but still used the old long seat hinges) it's probably a  MFG# 1692450 Sovereign.  It had the Command engine.

I guess the PO wasn't a fan of the anti-scalp rollers.

Hello, On the frame, by the left front wheel is a silver tag, with the tractor info  . it may still be readable?

If your considering a repower, I like the Harbor freight predator  22 hp v twin, that I put in my sovereign  .$699

thanks Ken in Mi

Yes, the tag is there but no print.  Sometimes I can see the indentation of the letters but no such luck.

You can try laying a piece of paper over the tag and lightly rubbing a pencil over it.  It might bring the print out.

Nice machine! I really like the Sovereign 18's. I have had mine for sale for a while now but it still hasn't sold so I have just decided to keep it. The PS and hydrolift are awesome for plowing with the big 46" blade in the winter. I hope this is a great machine for you!! dOd

Interesting idea.  I will give it a try

Tried the pencil and no luck.  The top part of tag is missing.  I will post a pic
