The correct wiring harness for the engine is Kohler P/N 24 176 40-S, $55. The only available wiring harness for the tractor is Simplicity P/N 1717183SM, $65. But, the tractor wiring harness is for a Triad powered Sovereign and you will need to change the motor end of the harness. Use (1) mated connector Kohler P/N 25 155 06-S and (5) spade terminals Kohler P/N 52 452 01-S.

If you're handy at wiring, you should be able to re-wire the tractor yourself using the harness you have and adding a wire or two.  Check this post I wrote awhile back about replacing a Triad with a Command:

https://simpletractors.com/articles.html/articles/engine-repair-rebuilding/kohler-triad-replacement-command-r12/

It has a fairly extensive section on wiring the Command.

You will need to replace your 916 "Kohler 12V coil feed" ignition switch with a "Briggs magneto ground" ignition switch.  An alternate is to use a relay to ground the Command magneto.  You could use the dash mounted "starter" relay for this purpose by running the "start" wire directly to the Command starter relay.  IMO, it's more straight forward to replace the ignition switch, they don't cost that much.

The "Briggs magneto ground ignition switch" used in "Sovereign" tractors is a 5 terminal switch, although they have changed the pin out connections over the years.  Here's the wiring diagram for the earlier ignition switches for both Briggs (magneto ignition) and Kohler (battery ignition):

The "Briggs" switch looks like this (with the alligator clip on the "mag kill" connector):

The newer "Sovereign 18" is also 5 pin ( pic of the back of the switch that's in my 75th Ann):

BUT the pin out connections are different as can be seen is the wiring diagram:

So I would check the harness connector on your AC916 to make sure it's a five pin connector, then get switch that matches the connector.  I would then check the pin out connectors and re-pin the harness connector to match the function.

I see that in the wire harness there is an interlock module do I need that for this wire harness to work if so can it be bypassed  to work on an older 916

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
      Paul
