Dutch 4 Posted March 26, 2002 Did the previous owner convert to Magnetron and eliminate the points?
TimE 0 Posted March 26, 2002 While I'm certainly not a small engine mechanic, I have tinkered with a few over the years. I can't find the points on this engine. I pulled the flywheel and there not there. There is one wire coming from the magneto to ground and then to key switch. But no other wires can be found. Simplicity Broadmoor, Briggs model # 142702 type: 912401 serial # 67051 recoil start vertical shaft I have figured out that if they are missing, that would explain my no spark problem. Help and thanks.
Guest Posted March 26, 2002 they should be on the side of the motor in a little box with on screw on the bottom and one on the top
Dutch 4 Posted March 27, 2002 Tim, It's pretty hard to tell the difference between a regular armature (coil, magneto) and a Magnetron.[A href='http://www.jackssmallengines.com/Ignition_b.cfm'][img src='http://www.jackssmallengines.com/graphics/Ignitions/460014.jpg'][/a]
TimE 0 Posted March 27, 2002 According to the print out i got from the Briggs web site, it shows that the points should be under the flywheel. It looks like they are on the side of the engine on horizontal shaft engines only. I don't see any thing else that could resemble an electronic ignition module. It looks like they just removed the points/condenser.
