Interesting early Deere ad

Noticed this in the latest issue of lawn and garden tractor magazine in an article written about the early John Deere lawn and garden literature.

Seems that Deere was producing implements and advertising before they even had a tractor built to picture with them. Then, later produced the same literature when they had a product of their own to display.

Looks like they made a great choice of ‘Brand X’ tractor to use!  It appears to be a Simplicity 700, stripped of its badges.

Maybe its safe to say Deere had Simplicitys in Horicon while they were developing the green machines

Thanks for sharing Josh: I read and thought similar thoughts. All identifying (Simplicity  nameplate) marks removed and black & white photography aided in brand Xing the tractor. JD photographers took great steps to recreate the 2 photos with the sprayer after the company brought out their own 110. Makes you wonder - when JD was in early stages just how many garden tractors they purchased & brought to Hericon to examine, and who knows, maybe Simplicity was one of the early contenders to become JD????  Evidently someone thought it worthy to be photographed pulling the company equipment...
