Onan CCKBs

I'll take that CCkb off your hands for the right price. The Onan gets a bad rap as far as I am concerned. Like I say - i'll take her off your hands if you switch. Steve

Hey, Steve. Get to the back of the line! LOL Jeff Maybe we should have told Butch that the CCKB's are junk, eh? 530 hours - hardly even broken in! ;o)

How much are these engines worth? Reading the "For Sale" posts lets me think an old engine that smokes can bring well over $1000 dollars. If my Onan only has 530+ hours on it and doesn't even think about smoking, what could it be worth? Makes me seriously consider selling the motor and converting to the Honda just for ease of maintenance. What do you guys think? Is the Onan worth keeping or just an expensive "original" piece of equipment? Thanks PS: Thanks for the responses to "to paint or not". My computer went further south for a few days so I couldn't even respond.

Butch, First, I doubt a smoking CCKB would bring $1000 - maybe, if it was parted out. How much maintenance is required on your 530 hr. CCKB? Oil change every 50 hours; maybe points, plugs and fuel pump diaphragm every 100 hours. Personally, I like the old CCKB's and think they are unbeatable for power/torque. I'd consider the swap if your CCKB had a lot of hours and would be requiring a rebuild soon. I understand the advantages with a solid state ignition, updated charging system, less fuel consumption, etc. But, just to replace a CCKB with only 530 hours ... I don't think I would. You can get a lot of hours out of these old CCKB's with routine maintenance and care. Just my opinion. BTW, let me know if you decide to sell that CCKB. Jeff
