Sovereign gas tank leaking

Recommended Posts

I've recently had this happen in two of my Sovereigns where it leaks around the rubber gasket and metal nipple in on the bottom of the tank. Since the nipple has a metal filter on it, I am assuming this is available at parts stores? Do the rubber gaskets go bad then causing them to drip fuel?

I recently purchased the nipple and rubber gasket for my 7119 from Partstree but it is still under construction so I haven't tested it for leaks yet.  If it leaks, I will use silicon.  Not sure how I will get the silicon inside the tank but I will burn that bridge when I get to it.

I agree with the above.

I my experience, if you move the fuel line too much (changing the fuel filter or adding an inline shut off valves will usually move the line "too" much), the seal between the rubber grommet and tank is broken and usually doesn't "self heal".  So a "quick" job becomes much more involved.

Both the grommet and fuel pick-up are available from Simplicity for pretty reasonable - I think it was under $10 for both parts when I replaced them in my tank last spring.  Installed both parts, I was in business.

Yeah did that grommet on few tractors ,  rubber got a shelf life  before it becomes like a rock .

I keep extra on hand  all the time .

A while back I bought a BMW e30 1990 , with super low miles that sat for years , got it going , every other day a hose leaked to a point I had to replace  them all .

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
      Paul
