RenegadeJ 2 Posted March 30, 2002 Having just put on of these back together I put as much grease in the differential by hand that I could. Then after putting the unit back together I pumped grease through the fitting. It seem to get plenty of grease via the grease fitting but sometimes I over lube things. With plenty of grease these old tractors last a long time. I don't think you can overlube the differential.
Dave-Saratoga 1 Posted March 30, 2002 In the spirit of this glorious day here on the east coast- I'm finishing up rebuilding a tranny and differential from a big10 that I had started late last fall and had a question about grease in the differential housing. I want to clean out the old grease from the differential housing and, in the process, inspect the gears. Will the housing get greased when I reassemble the differential and pump in new grease through the fitting on the axle tube or, should I attempt to pack the gears before attaching the differential to the axle. Thanks
MikeES 469 Posted March 31, 2002 Pack the gears, the diffential does NOT get any grease from the axle tube zerk fitting. Good Luck! Mike S.
