Plow Time

Had a nice day yesterday and loaded up my 916H and hauled it to my 4-1/4 acre lot which has 1-1/2 acres of creek bottom.  It had soybeans on it this year with a horrible yield. There was a lot of grass and weeds that prevented the beans from making a good stand and they didn't get sprayed until late August.  The 916H was acquired last year for $200 out of Illinois, but it has undergone a lot of work since then and received a donor hood, seat deck, right running board, and dash from a 917H. I still need to re-decal the hood.

Sorry for so many pics but I think everyone likes plowing pics.

This is what 2-1/2 hours of plowing with a one-bottom plow looks like. I finished about a 45 x 200 ft patch. Did not use a tank of fuel. Was also pleasantly surprised that I had no traction issues. I didn't use the coulter because it clogged instantly.

Too many pictures? Nope! Only thing better than plowing pictures, is doing it personally. Looks great! I did some plowing last weekend with my farm tractor, very satisfying.

Miss fall plowing. One of my most enjoyable weekend tractor jobs in the past. Good job Chris. Looking forward to a bountiful crop next yr.

Looks like fun Chris.  Every so often I put my coulter back on to give it another try, usually doesn't stay on more than 50' before I get tired of plugging.

Up here you would be plowing white stuff under.

Some farmer out west plow after the first snow saying the snow is nitrogen and by plowing it under the sun can not evaporate it .

What type of crop are you planning on putting up next season in your fresh plowed field?

There was no contract or lease on the ground. They were farming it for free. I just waited until they had harvested before I played in the dirt. I have to call them and iron out the details for next year. They will probably plant corn. I'm hoping the plowing reduces their weed problem next year.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

No winter out there?  When do you switch "plows"?

The last four or five years it has felt like we had "no-winter." Last year it only snowed a couple of inches.
