Engine model......?

Simplicity725

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Does anyone know anything about these engines? One is out of a 1963 Simplicity 725 and the second is from a 1962 Simplicity 725. Another user on here told me that they are not model 19’s which is what 725’s came with from the factory. I couldn’t really find any information on this 20 cubic inch engine so I just assumed it was a model 19. The big difference is that these don’t have the magneto coil behind the flywheel but rather it sits on top of the flywheel and the flywheel has magnets. Any help would be much appreciated.

6805281:  engine was made on May 28,1968 in plant 1.

200401:  20 cubic inches, 0 basic design series, 4 horizontal crankshaft Flo-jet carburetor, 0 plain bearing, 1 rope starter

Hard to read the type numbers.  I think second engine is 0019-01

I also think Briggs now has condensed all their online manuals to end with -99; if so here's the parts diagram showing the mag:

Wow thanks for all the info. This helps a lot. It’s weird how both Simplicitys I own have had engine swaps. Huh kinda makes you wonder.

These bronze colored 8hp replacement engines are very common in the 700/725/B-1 models. It may have been a cheaper option than a rebuild at the time.

I haven’t been able to find one

The model no. is 200401.  When you order parts you will also need the type.  Looks like yours are both 0019-01.  The parts houses will only show 0019-99 but that only means from 01 through 99.
