Talntedmrgreen 1,920 Posted February 24, 2018 Took yesterday off work and made a long run (1079 miles) to fetch several things I had struck deals on over the past few weeks. West of Louisville I grabbed a beautiful, original 616. I had been looking hard for one of the first year Powermax tractors and only hoped for this kind of shape. 800hr tractor. The Honda repower kit came with and is destined for another member’s tractor The second stop was to retrieve a B series forklift. It had been heavily modified and in talking to the seller, his father, a former Allis and Simplicity dealer, did this to increase capacity and use it on the back of a 620 and later, a small Massey. I hope to use it on the 616. He also found a Homelite T7 which had been on my wish list for years! Some other goodies and nos parts were thrown in. The last stop was to retrieve an NOS powermax sickle I purchased months ago. A club member replicated an Amigo part I needed as well 👍 The 725 and Briggs were tagging along for a local fella back home.

B112_son 14 Posted February 25, 2018 Nice. Sounds like you were in my neck of the woods. I’m about 50 miles west of Louisville on I-64.
MARK (LI) 639 Posted February 25, 2018 (edited) Nice Haul!...that 616 is something...good luck with it all I just posted this and then realized I had to edit it. ...you took 1 day off and drove over a thousand miles?...my wife goes berserk when I go more than 25 miles...and there is never anything worth while near where I live...I usually have to go close to a hundred each way...but a thousand...WOW!...it does look like it was worth it Edited February 25, 2018 by MARK (LI)

fishnwiz 3,289 Posted February 25, 2018 WOW....Christmas in February. ..What a haul. Gotta LOVE a good road trip! 71 degrees a BONUS
Talntedmrgreen 1,920 Posted February 25, 2018 Yeah I was thrilled to have some windows down time 👍 I like to combine miles/stops into one day vs taking a bunch of shorter trips. I have a pretty good system down now to make sure Im rested and dont need to make any stops other than for fuel. This is my second longest single day trip. I did just shy of 1500 miles last May when I ran down South to trade my 620 for the Wards Twin Twenty. I did a 1400 mile trip to NY where I picked up the Demo Wonderboy 700 and trencher last March. For that one I got a hotel room when I was 800 miles in, but wished I had just drove on through, so thats what I have done since. The worst part of this trip was the heavy rain and flooding. Horrible. Still managed the trip in 18hrs. 3 stops for loading and you know how those go.
B-16_IC 1,029 Posted February 25, 2018 Wow what a haul! It is great that Honda didn't get installed, too nice of an original to hack up. It's going to take a polishing real well. There are some sweet small parts there, that seat is a fantastic find.
Chris727 1,704 Posted February 25, 2018 1000+ in a day?? I have some catching up to do then.... My longest "day trip was around 550 RT. To do your trip I'd probably have talked for over 2 hours at each stop. I'd have been too thoroughly worn out from loading, strapping, etc to make it to two stops in a day. Man, I need to take whatever vitamins you're using.
Chris727 1,704 Posted February 25, 2018 Nice 616 BTW.....
fishnwiz 3,289 Posted February 25, 2018 Driving in rain = fatigue for me. Especially if I am by myself.
dhoadley 1,630 Posted February 25, 2018 As a professional driver (somewhere north of 2 million miles) a thousand mile day is a monster. I can only imagine how fast you must have been going to do near 1,500 miles in a day. Trucks are stuck to 65 - 70 mph. Fatigue is a real danger for that many driving hours. There's good reason for the laws limiting CDL driving hours and rest. Back when I started, in the 80's, it was alot looser, and its frightening to think back what a general menace we were to the general public. I don't miss those days at all. Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox.
PhanDad 3,251 Posted February 25, 2018 Huge haul. Going to add another vertical level to fit all the stuff in the garage? At one time, I thought about turning the ground level family room into a tractor storage "room". The room is on a slab and cool in the winter, but obviously much warmer than the unheated garage. And the living room was (and still) is rarely used. As you probably guessed, the idea didn't go far. If you have such a similar situation, maybe it'll work for you. Talntedmrgreen 1,920 Posted February 25, 2018 I really enjoy the drives, but yeah, the rain was a bother for sure. I am not quite sure yet where everything will fit, but I'm working on a plan The 616 so far, only needs a bath, and I'll work on polishing it the way I like. The T-7 was 'non-running', but the gas didn't smell too awful old, and when I gave it a few cranks, it fired right up! I haven't done a thing to it, and it runs and drives nicely. THe forklift will be a bit of a project. I'll have to look at how to add the connections to my Brantly pump/reservoir, and will convert it back to Cat0. The 616 mower deck is getting a bath today and will go up for sale. As will the small frame revitalizer. The engine is already in it's new home.
Talntedmrgreen 1,920 Posted February 26, 2018 Things are shaping nice👍 Turns out the 3pt on the 616 has never been used...nothing has ever scuffed the paint insode the arm joints and the top link has never been turned. I have collected all the parts to install rear PTO and will documwnt that when I find time to open it up. Im very pleased with this machine!
Talntedmrgreen 1,920 Posted February 26, 2018 The T-7 runs real nice. Cleaned up just as well. The kids ride it for an hour today. The dealer tag on the dash and matching keychain are neat. This is where I purchased the T-7, forklift, revitalizer and nos parts.
