9020
Finally! I found a nice original Sunstar 20...and I re-learned how to add a picture! Original owner, just over 700 hours (seems likely), rear PTO and sleeve hitch, all the lights even work. Nice snow-blower, dump trailer and vac unit. Only one problem, deck is RUSTY! Anyone have a good clean 48 or 60 inch Sunstar 20 deck?
9020
Oh, and it also has a really clean toothed Johnny Bucket with the "turbo" dump speed!
Tractors N' Football
Nice score! Looks really clean. Good luck finding a deck in nice condition.
fishnwiz
Nice looking tractor. Good luck on your deck search. I have seen a fair amount of rust issues on some of those decks.

PhanDad
Just saw this SunStar 48" deck listed on eBay. Seems expensive at $550 BIN but it looks to be in decent condition: Of course you never know until you take the deck covers off and see. It had a turbo blower set up at one time - you can see the mounting bracket at the discharge end. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Simplicity-sunstar-Garden-Tractor-48-mowing-Lawn-Mower-deck-nice-shape/352311131872?hash=item5207613ee0:g:ai0AAOSwqVJasko0

PTO shafts are oriented the same...legacy xl is the one that is reversed. A Legacy deck has a substantially different hitch setup but I know of at least two folks who have adapted these one way or the other...from sunstar to legacy or legacy to sunstar. acken
I believe the 900 series deck shell is the same if you have all of the hardware from Sunstar 48" to swap over. It may be necessary to drill some holes.
CTD01
Oh man thats a beauty!!! I miss mine after seeing that pic. When I sold mine I sold it with a super nice 48 deck. I will message him to see if he wants to sell the deck.

9020
Got a question...might have a line on a later year 48 inch deck. Are the decks all the same hook up wise for all the production years of the Sunstar or are there differences that would preclude it working? My Sunstar 20 is late 1980's and the deck I'm considering is early-mid 1990's. Thanks!
Angry Bear
Nice looking machine. I just bought a Sun Star about a month ago myself! Nice buy!

9020
I have another question for the experts, this time regarding tires. On my recent buy, they look original. They still hold air but I'm thinking about changing them out for a more aggressive tread. Any suggestions? Also, these are 23-10.5 x 12's but I hear later models had 26-12 x 12's? Any clearance downside or other problems if I went with the biggees?
9020
Howdy, snapped my front lift rod (#1675390ASM) yesterday so I'll need one of those too, in addition to a deck. Looks like it previously had cracked (corrosion showing on about 1/3 of the fracture cross section) and I just finished it. Might try to weld it up and put a gusset on there in the meantime. Keep me in mind if you guys see either! Thanks!
9020
Wanted to take the time to thank Tom Schmit, Mark AC, and Josh for helping me get a good working deck for this machine. It was quite a journey but their logistics teamwork helped me out a ton. Thanks guys! Please keep your eyes out nevertheless, as I ALWAYS buy "spares" for my hobby emergencies. I do it with 1970 Toronado GT's also so another 48" Sunstar deck (and a rototiller) should be easy!
