Simplicity loader cylinders

One of my cylinders has started to leak

found a place that rebuilds cylinders

they told me it could be costly

and would better off getting new ones

i have not been able to find new ones

was told they may have to be custom made

has anyone else run into this problem?

Check where it is leaking.   My Ark 600 cylinders were not raising or holding a load, I opened up(fairly easy) and found the o-rings were disintegrating, easily replaced and they work well now.  Check to see if walls are scored and allowing leak - rusty?  The shop should know what the problem is, cylinders are pretty simple.

An ARK or Danco loder should be pretty simple to just put new rings in.  The manual puines the process.

What loader do you have?

I have a L-12 loader

i have since researched the subject

and have seen that several members have repaired their own

If repair facility does not come up with a satisfactory solution

i will show them how to take it apart

hopefully they will have access to parts to fix it

Ronald cylinders are real easy to rebuild I've done several sets on my Danco's, less than a hundred for seals and o-rings, I've gotten all of mine from Scott at Diauble Equipment here in Ann Arbor.

Also Surplus Center, Lincoln Ne. has a huge selection of cylinders and very nice to deal with they may have new

The L-12 cylinders should pop right apart, after removing the hose fitting, and knocking the retaining ring off the end of the cylinder through that opening.  I made the mistake of assuming a reputable hydraulics shop near me would understand this, and instead, they put my cylinders on a lathe and cut them open, made new rods (which I did not need or want) and welded them back up.  It was a $550 bill when all I wanted was someone who knows what they were doing, to pop them open and replace the seals.

So...I now have a Simplicity 412 (L-12) loader that is leaking on one side, and ordered all the seals.  I can find that info for you.  I plan to do this one myself.  I can document it when I do, but am not sure when I'll have time at this point.

Great Lakes Rubber in Loves Park IL.

Ark 515, 550, 600 & 700 O-Rings -222 Buna 70 - Qty.-8, 214 Buna 70 - Qty.-4.

This will cost you maybe $12.00 so for $24.00, you can have an entire set for backup.

What are the dimensions of the cylinder? Closed length.. eye- center to center.   Extended length and the rod diameter as well as the bore size. And also the pin diameter which sounds like it is 1/2 inch. Can a 3/4  be bushed down to 1/2 or better yet the loader mounts opened up to 3/4?

There are a few places that have good charts for look up. http://www.baileyhydraulics.com/  this is my go to site...there are others as well.

I'm doing a couple right now, one for a ford 861 tractor with a wagner loader and a small hydra mac skidder.

They go pretty good...till they don't!!!  Seals are very reasonable. It's the chrome rod if it has to be replaced that gets expensive.

Here's the parts explosion.  The ticket is getting the lock ring (F) off through the hydro hose port.

  • 1 month later...

And the rest of the story.

I paid $567 to have cylinders repaired.

my reasoning it would be done right.

And would last forever.

waited a week to get quote

then they had to ordered parts

3 weeks later

I had cylinders back.

They did not look like brand new cylinders.

paint was still on rod end.

Don't the seals go on from that end?

the exposed end did not look like an oil seal.

put them back on loader

and promptly blew the endof one unit out.

was leaving next day for Texas

e mailed company asking for my money back.

got a reply today

They WILL refund entire amount.

And they do not want to see or keep cylinders

I ordered two cylinders from US Surplus.

$69.99 each

And I intend to try to repair the originals myself.

now to find where to order parts from

And are the cylinders on a Legacy the same ?

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
