Fortuitous failure

Recommended Posts

I recently posted about my crankcase getting filled with gasoline through the carb.  I ran my 314H for a good 5 minutes before figuring out something was wrong.  This tractor had sat for 20 years before I got it.  The intake valve was stuck shut, which I freed fairly quickly and got the engine running.  Unfortunately, there was blow-by and the engine smoked.  After the gas incident, I changed the oil a couple of times and it now doesn't smoke and the blow by is relatively minor.  I'm assuming the rings were stuck from sitting for so long the the gas infiltration loosened them up.  The tractor runs quite well at all speeds.  So, accidents can be good sometimes.

That's called falling into the outhouse and coming out smelling like a rose!  I have done it myself several times.  Unfortunately, I sometimes come out smelling like the outhouse too, but that's life!  Glad it worked out for you!
