Auction Treasures

I went to an auction yesterday in Birr Ontario. The owner was a small engine shop owner and repair mechanic who liked to keep antique stuff as well. He now is unwell and selling out so he can go live with his daughter and sil. The selection was incredible. There were 14 different wheelbarrows in the sale. 11 chainsaws, 8 or 9 weedwackers and many older lawn mowers and garden tractors. No Allis or Simplicity stuff but 8 smaller Cub Cadet tractors in the red series; several older Sears and many other makes. Prices were very low in my opinion but no one was bidding much at all. He also was a guy who liked to build stuff so there were 9 trailers and many work tables and benches in the sale as well. Lots of new steel plate, bar, and round and square tubing. Here are the items I brought home.

8 cubic in. Briggs from 1960.......$5

And this Pennsylvania Sabre 5hp riding mower. They were never sold in Canada so it is rare here and I suspect also not too common in the States either....$20

Very nice!  That Cub is a cutie and the Penn would draw some attention anywhere.

Seems I don't find deals like that, but I am happy you did!  The cub was a steal, and the Sabre is a nice prospect for a restoration.  Nice shopping!

Wow! What great deals! I like that Cub and Sabre. I don't know if its made by the same company that made Penncraft but the colors are exactly the same as the little Penncraft I picked up a while back.

Checked the spark and added gas to the Sabre today. Started fairly easy. Added Seafoam to the tank and drove it around for about 20 minutes to get it good and warm. I will let it sit for a day or two now and hope the carb deposits soften up with the seafoam. It runs fairly well but I may end up having to clean the carb. All three forward and reverse gear work as they should. Deck height adjuster works good but there is no deck belt so I can't try it. I have a battery on charge for the 382 Hydro and may try to get it started tomorrow.

Elliott; I don't know who made the Penn Craft mowers. My Sabre is from the same company that made CoPars, Panzers and Meteors plus some later tractors.Your Penn Craft sure is a cute little guy....Dave

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
