jlasater 205 Posted July 10, 2018 The Danco SV40 loader on my 9020 is *badly* in need of new seals in the cylinders. I don't have a local hydraulics shop, unfortunately. Have any of you guys rebuilt your Danco cylinders, and if so what o-rings did you go with? Or...did you convert to more modern square-section seals?
jlasater 205 Posted July 10, 2018 Got one cylinder apart. What engineer came up with that goofy wire retainer...what a pita. And...where do I find replacements?
Talntedmrgreen 1,920 Posted July 10, 2018 I have never had one of these apart...how did the process go?
720nut 3,811 Posted July 10, 2018 Wire is mirely 1/8th keystock and easily found in any hardware store. Personally I've felt it a rather easy build as you just lift wire end up and unscrew, goes back in just as easy. I've rebuilt several cylinders. Find a good auto parts person who still knows how to look things up. All my seals and orings came from a Allis/Simplicity dealer.
jlasater 205 Posted July 11, 2018 Once I got the wire retainer out, it was pretty easy. I cleaned and de-burred the end of the piston rod, pulled the end cap off, and then cleaned the inside of the tube well before pulling the rod out so as not to damage the aluminum piston. A local machinist is sourcing "pip" seals as an upgrade on the pistons.
lugnard 73 Posted July 11, 2018 That sounds like a good idea but if the originals worked for as long as they did might just go with that for simplicity (pun there!) sake. If its the kid of seals I think you're talking about you might need to compress them before install. No big deal just use a piston ring compressor and collapse them for a bit before you slid them in. Also grease...not oil... up all the new seals before assembly. This from a great hydro shop that I use in Winona MN. There are some good U tube vids on cylinder repair out there so maybe give them a view also. Abomb79 and Keith Fenner is what I would suggest. Harry
