9934059
This photo is from a Briggs 12 HP engine behind the magneto. What is the purpose of the 2 wires going from this ground stud to the point box? Edited July 20, 2018 by 9934059 add photo
PhanDad
If I remember correctly (been awhile since I've had tin off), the wires that go to the points box are connected to an insulator stud, not a ground. One wire goes to the points (which grounds the wire intermittently to make spark) and the other to the ignition switch to stop spark when continuously grounded. If that stud is grounded (by rust or other failure) you won't get spark.

donmoore1904
That is the setup on my 10hp Briggs - isolated connector from ign. sw. to points. I think PhanDad nailed it if that motor uses a similar concept.
