Kohler 12 to Briggs 16 7012... Maybe

Recommended Posts

Guys,  the K301 12 hp in my 7012 went down.  I have a gear drive starter Briggs 16 sitting (w/the complete wiring harness) on the shelf from a 7016 6 speed.   At first glance it looks like I need to do the following:  Feedback appreciated.   Or a lead on a k341 !

1. Install the older, rectangle oil sump/pan to the Briggs?  This boss on the side of the oil pan interferes with the frame.

2. Find a 7016 drive shaft?

Heh.  Gotta love it.  After thinking/drinking a cocktail or two on this overnight, solved.  I mean it came out of a 7016 it should go into a 7012, right?  Well dum-bass,  Remove that oil drain plug thats stickin out a quarter inch and the motor drops right into the frame.  And look, the driveshaft is even the correct length.  That 12 Kohler must  really be bothering me with what went wrong.

Hey Mike, I didn't think that would work without having to modify the drain window.  Have you used that trick previously?

Removing the oil drain plug was the easiest solution for me. And the oil drain is centered perfectly in the Simplicity window.P1100936.thumb.JPG.d96e4eea12d1fd1003547904be10ee65.JPG

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
