Mystery Solved - Hydraulic Control Stiff

Recommended Posts

I have a old Legacy that has the foot control for the hydraulic lift. The control works nice and smooth when the engine is not running however it gets very stiff and does not return to the center position with the engine running. It will raise and lower the plow nicely but just stiff and not bouncing back to center. Power steering and drive system works well. Anyone ever have this issue before?

Found the problem in case anyone has this issue. The foot control has a rocker shaft that goes through the center of it and secures the non moving end of the hydraulic cylinder to the frame. The foot control and the rocker shaft had corroded into one solid piece at one end.  So when there was pressure on the cylinder it was binding the foot control. One nylon bearing and a little clean up at its like new!

I messed around with this a little more and the valve actually seems to be stiff when the system is under load. In my case the plow is lifted in the air. I noticed this morning I left the plow raised all night and when I lowered it this morning without the engine running, the valve was super stiff until the plow hit the ground. Then it seemed like normal. I'm really leaning toward a bad valve. Might have another one laying around in my stack of parts to try out. I think I should go ahead and change the fluid and filter while I'm at it too.

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
