limit-slip differential

Out of curiosity I scribed a line between left hub and axle tube and found out differential is locked. Is this an issue? I need the extra traction so as long as this won't harm anything I'm ok with it locked. Previous owner may have locked it,it does tear up the ground just a little (not a big concern) when making tight turns. Maybe this winter I will tear into differential to see whats going on.

If the tractor shipped with limited slip and it now digs ground while making turns there's something amiss, I have the transmission cover off on my Allis 720 and from what I'm able to see it looks like Simplicity used a design similar to what you would find in the Detroit Locker.

I once owned an International 3 ton with a locker and sometimes while making a turn on paved road the diff would send a shock wave through the whole truck accompanied with a loud snap. Obviously there was an internal problem but since it never let me down lived with it.

The derby guys like to weld the spider gears in the differential giving them posi traction, the problem here is that can lead to broken axles.

If you have a large frame tractor, and the diff is locked means it was put together wrong.  Locked they will want to plow straight ahead and the outside front tire can tear  up the lawn,  on blacktop or concrete the locked diff will really put a strain the axle when turning.

This is a AC314. Looking at parts diagram it is just 8 planetary gears around a sun gear on axle. Friction is controlled by springs on each planetary gear.  Tractor operates and steers fine,it also pulls like a mule so not sure if I want to bring it back to OEM.

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
      Paul
